This motion chart was devised and is used by us in our consulting work of motion study in the in- dustries. Here we deal mostly with those who have the use of all their limbs and faculties, but the chart is equally applicable when dealing with cripples. The elements of a cycle of decisions and mo- tions, either running partly or wholly concur- rently with other elements in the same or other cycles, consist of the following, arranged in vary- ing sequences: 1. Search, 2. Find, 3. Select, 4. Grasp, 5. Position, 6. Assemble, 7. Use, 8. Disas- semble, or take apart, 9. Inspect, 10. Transport, loaded, 11. Pre-position for next operation, 12. Release load, 13. Transport, empty, 14. Wait (un- avoidable delay), 15. Wait (avoidable delay), 16. Rest (for overcoming fatigue). The simultaneous motion cycle chart is best made on decimal cross-sectioned paper. The hor- izontal lines, reading from the top down, repre- sent time. We have found that the thousandth of a minute is the best unit with which to work.
