FELLE, LEDER.
1. Undressed salted Hides and Skins.
Export (1913) value 14.3 million Kr.
At the same time hides — specially heavy hides for sole leather —
to a value of 13.9 million Kroner were imported from La Plata. Of this
quantity, however, almost the half was re- exported.
Of Specialities may be mentioned: Cowhides, light heifers, horse
hides, calf skins — light as well as heavy — red and mottled veals for
knapsacks, and sheepskins, both sheared and with wool on.
2. Dressed Hides and Skins.
The value of the goods exported (during 1913) by Danish tanneries
and factories of leather goods amounts to abt. 780.000 Kr. (The expansion
of this export is greatly hampered by the protective duties imposed by
various countries and the comparatively high wages). In certain cases
this fact has compelled the Danish leather industry to establish factories
within the Customs boundaries of the countries concerned.
Of Specialities may be mentioned: glove leather (Chamois leather),
sheepskin treated with alum for jackets and waistcoats, split leather for
motorcar clothing and bookbinding, black as well as coloured. At times,
a quantity of coloured chrome tanned leather and »vache leather«, especially
offal and bends, has been exported.
3. Articles made of Leather.
Export (1913) value abt. 250,000 Kr.
Footwear, harness, belting, articles for travelling purposes.
