British Dominions and Colonies.
INDIAN EMPIRE AND CEYLON.
INDUSTRIAL HALL—NORTH - EAST COURTS.
India, the brightest Jewel of the King’s Dominions, is represented by a number of
well-known merchants, who display tho unique Embroideries in Satin and Cloth of
Central India; Furniture, artistically designed and carved in the hard woods for
which the North is celebrated; the Metal and Brass Ware of Benares and the Copper
Ware of Cashmere. Curry Powder, Chutney, Guava Jelly and the Indian Cheroot
also, naturally, find a prominent place amongst the native productions.
The Government of Travancore, a portion of the Indian Empire little known to
fame, seek publicity by a unique show of Lace Cloths, Musical Instruments and
Forest Produce.
Ceylon, the centre of the Tea Industry, is fittingly represented by a handsome and
appropriate Kiosk in the form of a bungalow, erected by Messrs. Geo. Payne & Co.,
Ltd., London, near the Gray Street entrance. The verandah, foliage, decorations, and
native attendants are realistic of Oriental life, and are well worth a visit. H. R. H.
The Duchess of Fife graciously partook of a cup of “Government” Tea while passing
this Section.
