LIGHTING DEPARTMENT.
In arranging the scheme of lighting for this important Exhibition, the Committee have
aimed at presenting to the public examples of various systems of illumination by means
of Electricity, Ordinary Gas, High-pressure Gas, Acetylene Gas, and High-pressure Oil,
and of enabling those interested in lighting to examine the various systems employed,
and compare the comparative efficiencies of the different illuminants.
The electric lighting of the Exhibition Buildings has been divided into three distinct
sections, viz., Industrial Hall, Grand Avenue, and Machinery Hall, and each section is
still further sub-divided into several circuits, so that no serious inconvenience would be
felt should any breakdown occur.
The Industrial Hall is lit by means of 345-10 ampere Broekie Pell are lamps, and
404-16 C.P. Zurich incandescent lamps
The Grand Avenue by means of 105-10 ampere Broekie Pell arc lamps, 120-16 C.P.
and 20-200 C.P. Ediswan incandescent lamps.
The Machinery Hall by 250-10 ampere Broekie Pell arc lamps, 200 16 c.p. and 30-
200 C.P. Ediswan incandescent lamps.
The main cables for the lighting of these buildings have been given on hire by the
British Insulated Wire Co., Ltd., Prescot, and the arc light cables by Messrs. Isidoi’
Frankenburg, Ltd., Salford, Manchester.
The Wiring Installation for the Industrial Hall has been carried out by Messrs.
Claud Hamilton, Ltd., Glasgow, and the Wiring for the Grand Avenue and Machinery
Hall by Messrs. Lowdon Bros. & Co., Dundee.
The Main Switch Board has been given on loan by Messrs. Kelvin and James
White, Limited, Glasgow.
Fino Art Galleries. The Lighting for this building has been carried out by the
Glasgow Corporation Electricity Department, and about 4,000 incandescent lights
have been installed, and 100 H.P. for motors.
Grand Concert Hall and No. 1 Restaurant.—The Concert Hall is entirely lit by
means of 326-16 C.P. and 61-32 C.P. Ediswan incandescent lamps, and the Restaurant by
49-10 ampere Broekie Pell arc lamps, the wiring contractor being Claud Hamilton, Ltd.
Nos. 2, 3, 5, and 6 Restaurants are fitted with 158-10 ampere Broekie Pell are lamps
and 140 16 C.P. Zurich incandescent lamps, the wiring contractor being Lowdon Bros.,
& Co., Dundee.
No. 7 Restaurant, Press Room, and Band Stand are lighted by the Bon Accord
Acetylene Gas Lighting Co., Aberdeen.
