A branch of the Young Men’s Chris- tian Association occupies pleasant rooms in the Adams national bank building, corner of Main and Bank streets. BRAIN AND BRAWN. North Adams has and has had its share of brain and brawn, but only the names of a few of those who have helped to found its institutions and spread its fame abroad, can be given. Hiram Sibley, until his death the head of the great seed houses of Roch- ester anti Chicago, was born here on February 6, 1807. Allen B. Wilson, the inventor of the Wheeler and Wilson sewing machine, left here in the spring of 1850, with a model of the machine in his valise, to secure his patent. He returned in 1865 and with part of the profits of his invention built The Wilson. Senator Henry L. Dawes began his law practice and laid the foundation of his great political future here.
