The Christopher condenser, Fig. 276, is designed so that the gas is sprayed during the operation of cooling. It consists of a series of concentric tubes so arranged that the gas, passing downwards through the annular space between the tubes, is divided into a thin film, and is thus brought into intimate contact with the exterior surface of the inner
