FROM SOLUTIONS TO CRYSTALS through the primary sodium crystals and act on the plate, but are blocked to a large extent by the opaque gold in the spaces between the crystals. The impression, therefore, obtained on the plate differentiates between the primary crystals and the rest of the alloy. Fiq. 15.—Crystals which have separated from a fused alloy of copper and tin ; as seen under the microscope. This extremely interesting method of studying the crystalline condition of alloys can obviously be employed only when there is a fairly well-marked difference between the two metals in relation to the Röntgen rays; the scope of its application is therefore somewhat limited. 324
