FILE FILOSOPHY the work started by the coarse and bastard. The rough and dead smooth are seldom called for, but correspond to the above use. The single cut file is one in which a single, unbroken course of chisel-cuts is made across its surface, arranged parallel to each other but with a horizontal obliquity to the central line.
