the Company makes from this substance. This kind of brick has of late
years been laigely used, e. g. for the new Post Office and Christiansborg
Palace. Bricks made from siliceous clay form an excellent insulating
material for heat, in consequence of which they are used for the insulation
of ovens, and they will undoubtedly be much sought after for walls in cold
countries, and because of their lightness they are very suitable for bay-
windows and the like. Hollow moulded bi'icks are used for the insulation of
iron constructions against fire, they being laid round columns and brackets.
Insulating material is made from siliceous powder placed round steam pipes
and the like. Natural siliceous powder is used as a lining, and burned sili-
ceous powder for lawn tennis courts.
The specific gravity of ordinary siliceous clay brick is abt. 1, and its
heat-conducting capacity is only 1/3 of that of fireproof bricks, but for the
insulation of boilers an especially porous brick with a still lower specific
gravity and heat-conducting capacity is made by the Company.
