Aalborg.
Aalborg is situated on the Liim Fjord about 16 English miles from
the mouth. Hals at the entrance of the Liim P'jord is situated in Lat. 57° N.,
Long. 10° 20' E. The depth on the bar at Hals at high water is 24 feet, and
the channel over the bar is 183 feet wide. The same depth can be maintained
to Aalborg. Pilotage is compulsory for crossing the bar, if the draught
is 16 feet or over. The depth of water at the different wharves at Aalborg
varies from 13 to 24 feet with a soft muddy bottom. The wharves are about
5 to 7 feet above sea level and have railroad tracks laid so that vessels
can discharge direct into the trucks, and a crane for lifting 20 tons is found
here. There are several small light slipways, the largest one can haul out
a vessel 200 feet long. There is a powerful tugboat, which also works as
an icebreaker. Divers can be obtained from the tugboat. A large supply
of coal and provisions is always available. Fresh water can be obtained
from the city water works. Time signal for correction of chronometers.
Storm signals displayed.
