150 Aarhus. Aarhus is situated on the East coast of Jutland in Lat. 56° 9', Long. 10° 14' E. on the western part of Aarhus bay. Pilots can be obtained at the harbour. The harbour is well protected by breakwaters, and 24 feet of water can be carried into the north harbour and into part of the old harbour, 27 feet in the new south harbour. There are 22 to 24 feet of water alongside the wharves in the north harbour, 17 to 24 feet at the wharves in the old harbour and 23 to 27 feet in the south harbour. The wharves are 5% to 6 feet above sea level, and have railroad tracks. There are several warehouses and bonded warehouses, also a grain elevator capable of holding 5000 tons of grain. The wharves are lighted by electricity. There are light slipways for vessels of 150 and 300 tons displacement and several machine shops. Coal, provisions and water can be obtained in any quantity. There is a tugboat and in the north harbour a 10 ton crane. In winter this port generally remains open when other ports are ice bound. Time signal for correction of chronometers. Storm signal displayed. Brokers and forwarding agents. Bergmann, Smith & Co. (T. «Beigsmiths«). Otto Friis. v. d. Hude (T. »Hude«). Assens. Assens is situated on the West coast of the island of Fyen in Lat. 55° 16' N., Long. 9° 54' E. There is a dredged channel 100 feet wide, and 23 feet can be carried to the wharf in the new harbour. Railroad tracks on the wharf. Coal, provisions and water can be obtained in reasonable quantities. There is a machine shop for small repairs. Bandholm. Bandholm is situated on the North, coast of the island of Laaland in Lat. 54° 50' N., Long. 11° 30' E. There is a dredged channel, and 18 feet can be carried to the wharf. Railroad tracks on the wharf. Coal, provi- sions and water can be obtained. Ebeltoft. Ebeltojt is situated on the East coast of Jutland in Lat. 56° 12' N.» Long. 10° 40' E.
