PIERHEADS, QUAYS, AND LANDING-STAGES. 221 Liverpool Floating Landing-stage.—The Liverpool stage, of which illustrations are given in figs. 199-201, showing the arrangement of the pon- toons and decking, is 2478 feet long by 80 feet wide. It has eight bridges connecting it with the shore, and, in addition, a floating bridge 550 feet long by 35 feet wide, by means of which an easy incline for goods traffic is main- tained at all states of the tide, which, during springs, has a maximum range of about 30 feet. The constructive arrangement of the stage is evident from the figures.
