to 50 tons capacity. Two main transmission shaf’ts,
each 393 ft. 8 in. in length, driven at 120 revolutions
per minute, give the motion to the varions machines.
The main engine is of the Corliss condensing type of
450 horse-power.

The steam required for the steam engines and hammers
is supplied by a range of eight tubulär boilers, with
two inside fire-boxes, and by the boilers which are heated
by the waste gases from the furnaces. Three of the
cementing furnaces are also provided with boilers.
The plant is complétée! by a repairing and maintenance
shop.
Summary.—Below is given a récapitulation of the

This engine also works two direct-current dynamos, of
220 volts, which supply power to all the electric apparatus,
travellers, tools, &c. ; and it drives the dynamo of the
electric welding apparatus.
