Two main transmission shaf’ts, each 393 ft. 8 in. in length, driven at 120 revolutions per minute, give the motion to the varions machines. The main engine is of the Corliss condensing type of 450 horse-power. Diameter <>f cylinder Stroke Revolutions per minute 0.750 m. L.400 m. 60 2 ft. in. 4 ft. 7$ in. 60 The steam required for the steam engines and hammers is supplied by a range of eight tubulär boilers, with two inside fire-boxes, and by the boilers which are heated by the waste gases from the furnaces. Three of the cementing furnaces are also provided with boilers. The plant is complétée! by a repairing and maintenance shop. Summary.—Below is given a récapitulation of the principal machines and tools contained in this important départaient.
