and propeller, shafts are hollow, of forged steel ; the pro-
pellers are of bronze cast in one piece. Each engine-room
is provided with a ventilator fan. The boilers are eight in
number, cylindrical, of the French Admiralty direct-flame
room : four donkey pumps in tlie stokeholds serve as
auxiliary feecl. Eight ventilators serve for ventilating the
stokeholds, and for working under forced draught. The
trials of the engines gave the following results :
