The gun is elevated by means of a handwheel,
the movement of which raises and lowers the carriage.
The training of the gun is effected by a lever, by raising
which the action of the brake friction slide on the edge of
io Centimetre (3.937-In.) Gun. Type 1892 (Figs 595
and 596).—Guns of this type have been suppliée! to the
Haytian Government for arming the gunboats Petion and
Capois la Mort.

the bolster is momentarily stoppée!. The gunner can then
move this lever in the direction in which he wants to train
the gun. The hydraulic brake consists of a cylinder, with
piston and spring reeuperator. When the gun recoils, the
frame in pivoting round its centre, displaces the piston in
the cylinder, and causes compression of the springs. When
the recoil is spent, thø springs relax and relay the gun.
The liquid in the brake cylinder flows slowly through
small openings in the piston, and moderates the speed at
which the gun is automatically relaid.
