WRAP REEL No. 1.
This is a Machine for measuring or winding
cotton yarns from four or any less number of cops at
one time into hanks, for ascertaining the counts, or,
when in hanks, for testing the strength or breaking
point, and the elasticity of the yarn.
For English yarns the swift or flyer is yards in
circumference. The bell indicates every 80 threads,
being one lay, or 120 yards. For French or other
cotton yarns the swift or flyer is made 1 or 1^ metres
in circumference, and the bell to indicate every 100
threads. This Machine is also made suitable for
woollen, linen, flax, or other yarns.
The stand is baywood, with drawer for weights,
&c., hand-slide motion for spreading the yarn on the
arm of the swift to prevent the threads from lying
one upon the other, and increasing the diameter of
the swift. Turned and polished iron pillars and
shaft. All wheels are brass, turned and polished,
engine cut, to ensure correctness and easy working.
I he handles and the swift or flyer are polished brass and lacquered. The flyer revolves twice for one of the handle, 40 turns
of which make 80 of the swift, being one lay ... ... ... ••• • Price £
This is also a Machine for measuring
or winding cotton yarns from four or any
less number of cops at one time into
hanks, for the same purpose as No. 1.
The advantage this Machine has over
No. 1 is that the spreading motion is
self-acting, and can be adjusted from 1
to 2 inches wide, the thread being evenly
distributed on the arms, giving an equal
length to each thread, thereby securing
a more reliable and accurate result when
testing the strength or breaking strain.
The stand is bay wood, French polished,
with drawer for weights, &c. The self-
acting and adjustable spreading motion
for laying the yarn evenly on the arms is
worked from a shaft, which gives the
motion to the brass slide working through
two polished iron pillars. The iron pillars
and shaft are turned and polished. All
wheels are brass, turned and polished,
engine cut, to ensure correctness and
easy working. The handles and the swift or flyer are polished brass and lacquered. The swift or flyer makes two turns for
one of the handle. The bell indicates every 80 threads, the same as No. 1. This Reel is also made for English, French,
or other yarns Price £
