>X2X 11II1111111111 BKB35' This is a very useful Machine for measuring or winding cotton, linen, or any other yarns, for ascertaining the counts, or reeling it into hanks, or testing the strength or elasticity. It is made to wrap from four or any less number of cops at one time. It is provided with a dial, which indi- cates from 1 to 120 yards, and, in addition, with a bell to strike at every 80 threads or 120 yards (1 lea). It has a self - acting and adjustable spreading motion for laying the yarn on the arms evenly, which can be adjusted from a lay of 1 inch to 2 inches wide. By this method the threads are all one length, which ought to be for testing the strength, or arriving at accurate counts. The Machine is made either for English, French, or any other measure, and the dial to indicate yards or metres. It can be adapted for almost any purpose. The stand is made of bay wood,.. French polished, with drawer for weights, &c. The three pillars and shaft are iron, turned and polished. The self-acting spreading motion is worked the same way as in the No. 3 Reel. The arms, wheels, handles, and slides are brass, polished and lacquered. All wheels are brass, turned and polished, engine cut, to ensure correctness and easy working. It is provided with a dial, which indi- cates from 1 to 120 yards, or it can be made to indicate French or any other measure. Ihe flyers or arms, handles, and slides are all brass, polished, and nicely lacquered. It is driven by brass bevelled gear, which causes the flyer to make two revolutions for one of the handle.
