This is a very useful Machine for
measuring or winding cotton, linen, or any
other yarns, for ascertaining the counts, or
reeling it into hanks, or testing the strength
or elasticity. It is made to wrap from four
or any less number of cops at one time.
It is provided with a dial, which indi-
cates from 1 to 120 yards, and, in addition,
with a bell to strike at every 80 threads or
120 yards (1 lea).
It has a self - acting and adjustable
spreading motion for laying the yarn on
the arms evenly, which can be adjusted
from a lay of 1 inch to 2 inches wide.
By this method the threads are all one
length, which ought to be for testing the
strength, or arriving at accurate counts.
The Machine is made either for English,
French, or any other measure, and the
dial to indicate yards or metres. It can
be adapted for almost any purpose.
The stand is made of bay wood,.. French
polished, with drawer for weights, &c.
The three pillars and shaft are iron, turned
and polished. The self-acting spreading
motion is worked the same way as in the
No. 3 Reel. The arms, wheels, handles,
and slides are brass, polished and lacquered.
All wheels are brass, turned and polished,
engine cut, to ensure correctness and easy
working.

which is essential for testing the strength,
or arriving at most accurate counts.

verse motion, from 1 inch to 2 inches, to
the bobbin and cop pegs, and guide eye.
Ihe flyers or arms, handles, and slides are all brass, polished, and nicely lacquered. It is driven by brass bevelled gear, which causes the flyer to make
