2 lbs. black resin. 1 lb. tallow. 1 gallon train oil.
Cement for Cloth or Leather.
16 gutta-percha cut small j

2 pitch „ > melted together and well mixed.
1 shellac „ I
2 linseed oil „ J
12 of amber.
12 of turpentine.
2 of resin.
2 of asphaltum.
6 of drying oil.
8 ounces of shellac.
Ikon Lacquer.
f 3 lbs. of asphaltum.
or < i lb. of shellac.
I 1 gallon of turpentine.
Brass Lacquer.
2 ounces of sanclarach.
3 ounces of annatto. 4 8 ounces of shellac.
J ounce of dragon’s (1 gallon of spirits of wine,
blood resin.
1 gallon of spirits of wine.
The article to be lacquered should be heated slightly, and
the lacquer should be applied by means of a soft camel’s»hair
brush.
Whiting.
Chalk reduced to a fine powder by levigation.
Staining Wood.
Mahogany colour .. Burnt sienna ground in vinegar. __
Walnut „ .. Dissolve in hot water 1 of soda with
H vandyke brown and |th bichro-
mate of potash.
Red stain_________Dissolve dragon’s blood in spirits of
wine.
Black stain .. .. Dissolve permanganate of potash in
water.
French Polish.
3 ounces of shellac dissolved cold in a pint of spirits of wine;
if desired, it may be darkened with “ dragon’s blood.
