160 APPLIED MOTION STUDY that he be willing to do this, and to fulfil the re- quirements exactly, it is necessary that he be paid more than the usual wage for that work in that vicinity. If he is not, in spite of the other ad- vantages of working under Scientific Manage- ment, such as better teaching, more chance for advancement, a chance to specialise, etc., he is apt, because of the natural inertia of human na- ture, to choose to work in a plant where more “ free and easy ” and unstandardised conditions are the rule.
