Matt, or ground-glass, Varnish.
This is for applying to the glass side of negatives, and
must be applied while the glass is perfectly cold, otherwise
it will dry brilliant. It sets with a matt surface similar to
ground-glass, very suitable for working upon with lead
pencil. It is also useful for making focussing screens and
backing for window transparencies
Gum sandarac
Gum mastic
Methylated ether ..
Benzole (pure)

The benzole determines the nature of the giain, the
greater the proportion, the coarser the matt surface.
Retouching Medium.
The following is the best formula of which we know:
Sandarac Camphor Castor oil • • • Venice turpentine.. Alcohol .. 10 parts 1 » .• 2 „ 1 » .. 60 „
Anniv a little of the medium to the negative film (either
