pavement; fourthly, it is of all pavements known the
most free from noise; and fifthly, it can be readily
and quickly laid down or repaired. As to its cost,
although it would appear to be in the long run more
costly than granite, it is less costly than any other
pavement known, and when the damage to horses
and vehicles from the granite, together with the evils
of dirt and noise, are taken into account, it may be
safe to say that Wood Pavement is in the end the
cheapest
