The slag thus made is very suitable for road making, and especially for concrete, some thousands of tons having been sold for that purpose. The Hawdon ” Casting Machine.—The machine illustrated in Figs. 240 and 241 is by the same designer as the machine previously described. The general design of this pig-iron casting machine is much the same as that of the older type of slag machine, but it has been arranged more particularly for dealing with iron, and also with a view to keeping the moulds dry on their return for refilling.
