698 THE MECHANICAL HANDLING OF MATERIAL ferro-concrete (Hennebique system), and rises 89 ft. from the ground level to the roof parapet. In the foundations ferro-concrete piles 14 in. square and averaging 50 ft. in length were used. The granary will hold 50,000 qrs. of grain and is capable of extension when necessary. One end is occupied by elevators and weighing machines; the middle portion of the building is divided into silos 11 ft. 9 in. by 10 ft. in the clear and 50 ft. deep. The lower end of each silo is hoppered and has the usual valve by which the grain is withdrawn. The other end of the building is designed as a floor granary. On both sides of the granary are double track railway sidings over which roof coverings are constructed. The sides of the building facing these tracks are open to a height of about 12 ft. from the ground level.
