INSURANCE AND ITS COSTS
145
(2) 20 h.p. not exceeding £600 value, £22 per annum.
(3) 30 h.p. not exceeding £800 value, £24 per
annum.
Provinces and certain large towns plus 5 per cent.
London and Glasgow plus 15 per cent.
A reduction of 10 per cent, is generally given if the
vehicle is driven by the owner only, while there is a
special rating for “ Fords,” i.e., £13 6s., up to a value
of £275. Passenger risk is the same as in the case of
a char-a-banc.
Most policies allow of a reduction of premium if
the first amount on each claim is borne by the assured.
10 per cent, if assured bears the first £2 lOs. of claim,
20 per cent, if assured bears the first £5 of claim,
and so on.
A point to bear in mind is the due appreciation of
any alteration in the market value of the motor. The
replacement value of a machine naturally varies with
the condition of the market at any particular time;
and unless adjustment is made for this occasionally,
the trader may find that he is either over-insuring, or
paying an annual premium which in the event of the
total loss of a vehicle would in no way allow of its
being replaced.
