works a nut placée! on the axle and joined to the irai! ; the

axle, tlie whole system pivoting round the trail-spade.
This allows the lateral training to be corrected up to 2 deg.
on each side.
The distance between the wheels at the tread is
1,400 millimétrés (55 in.). The wheels are 3,220 milli-
métrés (48 in.) in diameter ; the boss is of brass and the rim
of bent wood, in three parts. The spokes are joined to the
rim by means of steel sockets. The axle is fitted with two
clasps with treads, on which stand two gunners, who hold
lateral training levers placée! vertically in sheaths held by
the clasps.
Special shoe-brakes hold the wheels on the ground
during firing ; when liauling, they act as ordinary brakes.
They are joined together by a cross-bar, and to the axle
by special forked arms made movable round the axle.
The fore-limber is made to carry fifteen rounds. Each
projectile is placée! in a separate inelined cell, where it is
