Photo T. The Statutory breaking stress of 255-7 tons was then applied, the result being a further elongation of the links by % inch. An attempt to test the three links to destruction failed, to break the links, notwith- standing that the full power of the testing machine (350 tons) was applied. There was no sign of fracture or defect of any kind, although the load was nearly 90 per cent, above the Admiralty stress. Copyright. Photo U.
