FORBILLEDER OG HERKOMST
IKallundborg Kirkes Plan og Opbygning krydses forskellige
arkitektoniske Ideer. I denne Bygning har bundfældet sig
Tanker, opstaaede til vidt forskellige Tider i den klassiske
Oldtid, ændrede og udviklede i Middelalderens ældre Aarhun*
dreder, indtil de paa mærkelig selvstændig Vis er bleven bragt
i Anvendelse paa denne sjællandske Murstenskirke i Valdes

PROTOTYPES AND ORIGIN
IN the plan and construction of Kallundborg Church many
architectonic ideas cross. In this building are blended
thoughts derived from various periods of classical antiquity,
modified and developed through the later centuries of the
Middle Ages, until, witli a stränge and independent undere
standing, thcy are given form in this Zealand brick church
from the luxuriant creative period of the Valdemars. How*
ever the rich variety in Kallundborg Church may not be fully
understood without an analytical investigation of the basic
principles on which it is composed.
The church, both in plan and construction, is built, plainly
enough, over a main central section and over four transepts
extending from this.
The central section seems to be an independent building.
Here it is that the original idea of the church as a unity must
be sought.
Very characteristic of this section of the church is the
square form, divided on a double axis into three naves in such
a way that the central section forms a complété independent
central construction of which the middle square section do:
minâtes leaving only room for small squares in the corners
and narrow rectangular sections off the central section. This
