On board ship, it is extensively used for deck, steering, stern and mast lighting; as a signal light for ships in danger at sea, for emergency lighting, and for general interior lighting. Many small vessels use Vaclite lanterns exclusively for illumination purposes. On land, it meets the requirements of warehouses, stables, factories, shops, and horse- drawn vehicles. • The Vaclite lantern is strongly constructed of heavy tin and tinned wire, with the lamp fount of tinned brass. The lamp is 20 inches high over all, including the bail, and 7% inches wide. VACLITE LANTERN Burns 15 hours with one filling. Lamp fount holds 6 ounces of Vaclite DIRECTIONS As Vaclite is solid in its unheated state, a specially constructed burner must be used in all Vaclite lamps and lanterns. To Charge Lantern 1. Remove heat conductor (A) and fount cover (B). 2. Fill fount (C) with lump Vaclite. (By melting a quantity of Vaclite, a number of lamps may be filled quickly and thor- oughly at one time.) 3. Replace cover (B) and heat conductor (A). 4. Lantern is then ready to light. 7 FOR USE Wick 1. Use only saturated %-inch wicks, as fur- nished with lantern. 2. Before blowing out flame, adjust wick to light required for future use. Caution 1. Do not allow lamp to burn dry. Keep the fount well filled. 2. Don’t attempt to turn winder (D) until lamp is warm, for the wick is fixed in solid Vaclite. Vaclite is obtainable at all ports of the wi I b!
