The Vaclite Lamp
The Vaclite lamp is most popular in its use as a practical hand bunker lamp.
On board ship it is indispensable for examining and inspecting boilers, tanks, and other
dark places, where a bright light with practically no smoke is needed.
On land the Vaclite lamp has many uses in factories, brickyards, brewery cellars, ware-
houses, and other places where a portable hand lamp or torch is required.
The Vaclite lamp is made of cold rolled open hearth steel covered electrolytically with
copper. No solder is used < The fount is of seamless drawn shell, and all danger of leakage is
avoided. The lamp is 12 inches high over all, including bail, and 5 inches wide. Three
types of handles are available, as shown in the illustrations below.
THE VACLITE LAMP
Burns 22 hours with one filling. Fount holds 16 ounces of Vaclite
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
As Vaclite is solid in its unheated state
a specially constructed burner must be used
in all Vaclite lamps and lanterns.
To Charge Lamp
1. Withdraw cartridge (A) and fill its two
compartments with Vaclite.
2. Replace cartridge and fill fount (B) with
Vaclite.
3. Lamp is then ready for lighting.
Wick
1. Use only saturated 1-inch wicks, as fur-
nished with lamp.
2. Be sure that wick (C) is at least T3s-inch
exposed above wick carrier before ex-
tinguishing lamp.
3. Adjust and clean wick with wick pin (E)
only when Vaclite is in melted condition.
Caution
1. Do not allow lamp to burn dry. Keep
it at least one-third full of Vaclite.
2. Examine cartridge (A) each time before
lighting lamp. If upper compartment is
more than half filled with Vaclite, lamp
is ready to light. If such is not the case,
reverse the cartridge so that filled lower
compartment will be at top. To do this,
place lamp bail (D) in horizontal position
(see illustration). Place wick pin (E)
through holes in top of cartridge (A). Use
lamp bail as lever and pull upward to
loosen cartridge.
