DAS RATHHAUS IN SZEGED. — • Allgemeine Theilnahme erweckte der vor 17 Jahren durch Ueberschwemmung erfolgte Untergang der kgl. Freistadt Szeged. Die Vater- landsliebe des Ungarn, die Hilfe des Staates, die dankbarst anerkannte Humanität des Auslandes, in erster Reihe aber die mit thränenden Augen gesprochenen Trostes- worte des geliebten Monarchen erweckten die Stadt zu neuem Leben. Das vom Untergange verschonte alte Rathhaus passte nicht in den glänzenden neuen Rahmen; die Bürger liessen daher auf die Grundmauern des alten Gebäudes und mit Beibehaltung des früheren reinen Barokkstyles das auf diesem Bilde ersichtliche pompöse neue Rathhaus aufführen, welches im Jahre 1883 seiner Bestimmung übergeben wurde. «wm«m« L’HOTEL DE VILLE DE SZEGED. — Il y a 17 ans qu’une catastrophe sans égale, — l’inondation qui détruisit de fond en comble la ville de Szeged, — émut pour ainsi dire le monde entier. Grâce à l’amour fervent de la patrie que le hongrois pos- sède au suprême degré, aux secours que l’Etat ne marchanda pas, à la générosité de l'Etranger, notamment de la France, mais surtout grâce aux encouragements que le plus populaire, le plus aimé des Souverains, Sa Majesté le Roi François-Joseph, ne cessa alors de prodiguer, la ville de Szeged fut reconstruite comme par enchantement et s’épanouissait 4 ans après dans toute sa nouvelle splendeur. Notre gravure repré- sente le nouvel Hôtel de ville construit comme l'ancien en style baroque. THE TOWN-HALL OF SZEGED. — Seventeen years ago the town was laid in ruins by an innundation. But the patriotic spirit of the Hungarian race, with the assistance of the Government and the generous contributions from abroad, raised the town anew. The work of reconstruction was mightily aided by the encouragements from our glorious Monarch who toolc the deepest interest in it. This second city of Hungary is a strong rampart of Hungary’s national culture. The Town-hall which the floods spared, did not fit into the new splendid surroundings, the Municipality therefore had a finer Edifice erected, on the same foundations and preserving the old baroque style.
