A LÄNCZHID. — Konstantinåpolyon kivül nincs Eurdpånak värosa, a melynek fek- vése festôibb és tåjképileg hatalmasabb volna, mint Budapest. A Duna két partjån elterülö s büszke pompåban végighüzôdô väros minden szemlélô're meglepô és meg- ragadö hatâst tesz. A festôi épületek között legfeltünöbb és épitészeti remeklés dolgàban legkivälöbb mindenesetre a lànczhid, a melyet képünk äbräzol. Két hatalmas pilléren és két hidfôn nyugszik az épitmény ; ez oszlopok tartjäk a roppant lånczszer- kezetet, a melyek viszont az egész hidat tartjäk. DIE KETTENBRÜCKE. — Kaum wird es, ausser Constantinopel, in Europa eine Grossstadt geben, die es in Bezug auf malerischer Lage mit Budapest aufnehmen könnte. Kein Wunder, dass jeder Fremde, der die Doppelstadt zum ersten Male erblickt, eines Gefühles höchster Überraschung sich nicht erwehren kann. Ohne Zweifel gehört zu den hervorragendsten Baudenkmälern Budapests die Kettenbrücke. Man nannte sie seinerzeit nicht umsonst eines der Weltwunder. Ihr Erbauer war der geniale englische Ingenieur William Tierney Clark, der das wahrhaft imposant grosse Werk von 1839 bis 1849 zu Ende führte. LE PONT SUSPENDU DE BUDAPEST. — En apercevant le puissant et majestueux fleuve qui sépare Budapest en deux villes reliées par ce superbe pont on est pénétré d’un sentiment de grandeur dont on conserve une impression durable. Le pont suspendu dont notre illustration donne la vue, est sans contredit l’une des curiosités les plus remarquables de la capitale hongroise, tout l’ingénieux système de suspension et d’attaches de l’immense tablier est supporté par deux puissantes piles médianes d’imposante et élégante construction. Ce magnifique ouvrage d’art a été cons- truit dans les années de 1839 à 1849, par le célèbre ingénieur anglais William Clark Tierney. THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE. — There are few towns in Europe, that can rival with Budapest in picturesqueness and panoramic beauty. The view of the town, lining magnificently and proudly both banks of the river is of enchanting effect. The most remarkable amongst its many picturesque structures, is the Suspension bridge, which we present liere. The mighty chains which carry the iron structure upon which the roadway is suspended, rest on two gigantic pillars, and two abutments. This marvel of engineering skill of which the Metropolis is justly proud, was constructed by Adam Tierney Clark, an English engineer, between the years 1839/49.
