Wer Franz Deåk war, was seine Persönlichkeit, welche Bedeutung sein politisches und gesellschaftliches Wirken für Ungarn hatte, das hat er dauernder als Erz in die An- nalen der Geschichte selbst eingeschrieben. Die Pietät der Nation stellte ihm ein Denk- mal in der Hauptstadt und errichtete ein Mausoleum über seinem Grabhügel, das den spätesten Generationen sein Ruhm verkündet werde. Denn er wird unsterblich bleiben in der Erinnerung der Nation. Er war es, der die Nation mit ihrem Könige versöhnte, dessen epochemachende Thä- tigkeit das geistige und ma- terielle Gedeihen des Vater- landes möglich machte. Er war einfach, bescheiden und gewissenhaft im Privatleben, gewaltig in den parlamenta- rischen Kämpfen. Er lebte und starb als Ideal des un- eigennützigen Staatsmannes und Menschen. Ce que fut François Deåk, sa personalité, quelle importance eût sa vie politique et sociale, il l’a lui-même gravé en caractères ineffaçables dans les annales de l’histoire. La piété de la Nation lui a fait ériger un monument dans la capitale et un mausolée sur sa tombe, afin de rappeler sa gloire aux générations futures, car son souvenir est pour ja- mais attaché à l’histoire de ia Hongrie. C’est François Deåk qui réconcilia la Nation avec son Roi et qui par son activité infatigable contribua le plus au développement intellectuel et matériel du Pays. Simple, mo- deste et consciencieux dans la vie privée, il était puissant dans les combats de la vie parlamentaire. — Il vécut et mourut en idéal de l’homme d'Etat désintéressé aussi son nom brillera toujours au fron- tispice de l’histoire. Sa Ma- jesté la Reine Elisabeth pria avec ferveur au pied de son cercueil; ses obsèques furent les plus imposantes. The immortal deeds of Francis Deåk will never fade from the memory of the nation, he will always figure as the main fac- tor, in the development of our material and intellectual prog- ress, at the same time strengh- tening the national selfconsci- ousness of the people. In pri- vate life he was modest, and conscientious in public life, but a powerful parliamentary de- bater. He is the embodiment of a statesman and his name will ever shine on the roll of the immortals.
