DER VÖRÖSMARTY- PLATZ IN STUHLWEIS- SENBURG. — Dies war die verlassenste Gegend der Stadt.Nachdem in Folge des alten Festungssystems hier concentrirte Wassercanäle überwölbt wurden, hat die patriotische Bevölkerung der Stadt u. des Comitates auf diesem Platze das von Nicolaus Vay entworfene Denkmal des berühmten Dichters Michael Vörös- marty errichtet. Auch das monumental angelegte Comitatshaus, welches im Jahre 1809 auf einem der grössten Plätze erbaut wurde, ragt als eines der schönsten Ge- bäude der Stadt hervor. Besondersist die ungeheure Stärke der Mauern dieses Baues erwähnungswerth. — Es scheint förmlich für die Ewigkeit gebaut zu sein. Das ganze entbehrt nicht einen gewissen Anflug von Grösse und Würde. Hier befinden sich die Amts- localitäten der Comitats- Verwaltung. ¥f«tjwmn MWIWAS ass LA PLACE VÖRÖSMARTY A SZÉKES-FEHÉRVÂR. Cette place qui est aujour- d'hui l’une des plus belles de la ville était autrefois un cidroit désert où se trou- vaient concentrésles canaux alimentant les fossés des ramparts. Après avoir fait exécuté des travaux de régularisation, la ville a fait ériger sur cette place, la statue du grand poëte na- tional Michel Vörösmarty d’après le plan de Nicolas Vay.Cc monument commé- moratif a été inauguré en 1886, en présence de la population enthousiasmée. Non loin de là, sur une autre belle place de la ville se trouve situé l’hôtel d’administration du Comitat construit en 1809. Cette construction d’ aspect monumental est un des plus beaux édifices de la ville, ses murs sont surtout d’une épaisseur remarquable, on dirait qu'on on ait voulu lui assurer une existence à perpétuité. THE VÖRÖSMARTY SQUARE IN STUHL- WEISSENBURG. — This was formerly the most neglected part of the town. The drains of the old fortress met here in open sewers, but are now vaulted over. In 1886 the communes of the county of Fehér and the town of Stuhlweissenburg, erected there the bronce statue of our immortal poet Michael Vörösmarty, mo- delled by Nicolas Vay, which testifies to our piety and gratitude for the great men of the Nation. The town being also the seat of the county, a county hall was built there in 1809, in the finest square of the town, which is one of the most noticeable buildings with regard to its monumental exterior. Externally it is a plain building with few ornaments but of imposing dimensions, and the walls are of such strength, that they are able to stand the wear and tear of centuries. Its sober exterior coupled with its large dimensions gives it a venerable cha- racter commanding admi- ration.
