ERDÉLYI OLÂH LAKHÄZ. — A magyar hazåt lakö nemzetiségek közt szàmarànyra nézve tekintélyes helyet foglal el az olâh (romàn) nép. A XIV. szâzadban költözött az orszâg, nevezetesen pedig az erdélyi részek belsejébc, hol — a török hddoltsâg s a belvillongâsok alatt kipusztult orszâg-védô ma- gyarok helyét foglalta el és most elszörva, de szivösan összetartva, a magyar fenhatôsàg s testvériesség oltalma alatt halad a kultura felé. A zôm még most is pàsztor és foldmivelo, de éles eszü, képzett, intelligens elemekkcl is bir, melyeknek vezetésére a kevéssel kielégitheto nép engedelmesen bizza magât. RUMÄNISCHES WOHNHAUS IN SIEBENBÜRGEN. — Unter den in Ungarn ansässigen Nationalitäten nimmt dem Zahlenverhältnisse nach eine bedeutende Stelle das walachische (rumänische) Volk ein. Es wanderte im XIV. Jahr- hunderte zur Zeit der Türkenkriege in das Innere des Landes, namentlich des siebenbürgischen Gebietes. Das Gros des Volkes, welches unter dem brüder- lichen Schutze und der Herrschaft des ungarischen Staates die Wohlthaten der Cultur geniesst, besteht zwar noch heute aus Hirten und Feldbauern, besitzt jedoch auch sehr verständige, gebildete, intelligente Elemente. MAISON DE PAYSANS ROUMAINS EN TRANSYLVANIE. — Parmi les peuples de nationalités différentes ayant imigré en Hongrie, les valaques (rou- mains) constituent, quant à leur nombre, un élément notable. Lors de leur imigration qui date du XIV. siècle, les valaques jetèrent de preference leur dévolu sur la Transylvanie où l’élément hongrois épuisé par les guerres turques avait laissé de nombreuses lacunes. La majeure partie de ce peuple qui bien que dispersé cà et là, conserve cependant un sentiment tenace d homogénéité, se compose en partie de pâtres et de laboureurs aisés. A ROUMANIAN DWELLING-HOUSE. — Among the different races of Hun- gary, the Ruman (walach) population, ocçupies, with regard to numbers, an important position. The rumanians came into Hungary, and Transylvania, during the XVth. Century, filling the gaps in the population, caused by the turkish wars, and replacing the vaning hungarian population. Now they are steadily advancing in culture under the brotherly protection of the hungarians. lhey are still shepherds and agriculturists, but are quickwitted, their customs are modest and their wants easily satisfied.
