ZALATHNA LÂTÔKÉPE. — Gyulafehérvårtol a m. kir. ållamvasutak egy keskeny vâgànyû szårnyvonala indul ki Zalathnâra. A kopâr bånyatelepek hazåjåban a mintegy 3000 olâh, német és magyar lakost szåmlåld bànyavârôs kellemes fekvésével köt le az Ompolyvölgyhöz. Màr a rômaiak idejében nevezetes arany- és higany-bånya- telep volt az akkori Auropolis, Auraria minor, hol a hajdani collegii aurariorum procurator is székelt. PANORAMA VON ZALATHNA. — Von Gyulafehérvår zweigt sich eine schmal- spurige Vicinallinie der königl. ung. Staatseisenbahnen ab, deren Endstation Zalathna bildet. Die beiläufig 3000, zumeist walachische Einwohner zählende Ortschaft mit ihren uralten Gold- und Quecksilber-Bergwerken war schon zu Zeiten der Römer eine berühmte Bergstadt. Ein tieftrauriges Andenken knüpft sich an die Geschichte des Städtchens: im Jahre 1849 massacrirte hier die wilde Horde der Walachen die wehrlos zurückgebliebenen Frauen und Kinder der im Freiheitskriege kämpfen- den Ungarn; als Krönung des schändlichen und gräulichen Blutbades zündete die Horde dann auch die Häuser an und zerstörte dieselben. VUE DE ZALATHNA. — Zalathna, point terminus de l’embranchement à voie étroite greffé sur la ligne principale des chemins de fer de l’Etat hongrois à Gyulafehérvår, est une jolie petite localité d’environ 3000 habitants pour la plupart valaques. Située dans la vallée romantique de l’Ompoly, cette petite ville était très florissante du temps des Romains, à cause de ses mines d’or et de mercure, qui lui ont valu les noms d’Auropolis, Aurania minor, Un épisode sanglant se rattache à l’histoire de cette localité; en 1849 une horde barbare de valaques massacra sans pitié les femmes et les enfants des hongrois, absents pour combattre dans les rangs des défenseurs de la liberté. THE VIEW OF ZALATHNA. — Not far from Gyulafehérvår, in the mining district of Transylvania, is the mining borough of Zalathna, the ancient Auropolis Auraria minor, a roman mining settlement, with the seat of the Collegii aurarium procurator. The mining court and collectors’ offices were locatcd there. During the first half of the present century, the mining was still a profitable one, some 8 to 10 hundredweights of gold being nannally collected. Washed gold is still found near the place. Its quicksilver mines, are the most important ones in the country. In 1849, in the absence of the male population, the Wallachs attacked the place, killed all the women and children and burnt the place down.
