DAS BAROSS-MAUSOLEUM IN ILLAVA. — Den «eisernen» Minister, der die ver- körperte unermüdliche Arbeit war, Gabriel von Baross, hat der Tod vor wenigen Jahren, gleichsam plötzlich, aus dem Reiche der Lebenden entrissen. Sein grösster Ruhm wird sich unauslöschlich an die Verwirklichung des grossartigen Gedankens der Zonentarife knüpfen. Auch die Regulirung des -«Eisernen Thores» an der unteren Donau und die allgemeine Verstaatlichung der Eisenbahnen sehen in ihm den kühnen Initiator. Unser Bild stellt das seinem Angedenken in Illava durch die Pietät der Nation errichtete Mausoleum dar, worin des Ministers sterbliche Ueberreste ruhen. Bald wird aber in der Hauptstadt selbst ein mächtiges Standbild aus Erz seinen unvergesslichen Verdiensten auf ewig gerecht werden. LE MAUSOLÉE DE BAROSS A ILLAVA. — Gabriel de Baross, surnommé «le Ministre de fer» à cause de son énergie peu commune a été enlevé à son pays par une mort prématurée. Travailleur infatigable, l’ancien Ministre a laissé une trace impérissable de son passage au Ministère du commerce. Grand nova- teur, il a préparé et réalisé avec une rare habileté le rachat, pour ainsi dire général, des chemins de fer hongrois, sur lesquels il a fait inaugurer le tarif par zone; cette innovation hardie lui a fait une réputation universelle. C’est aussi sous ses auspices, que la tâche ardue de la régularisation des «Portes de fer» dans le Bas-Danube a été entreprise. Notre gravure représente le Mausolée que la reconnaissance nationale lui a fait élever à Illava. BAROSS-MAUSOLEUM AT ILLAVA. — Gabriel de Baross the «Iron-Minister» was the incarnation of indefatigable Activity. He initiated and solved many important problems, but being struck down by the merciless Scythe-man, in the prime of life, had to leave some of them incomplete. He successfully established the Railway-Zone Tariff. To his indomitable energy is also due the régulation' of the Iron-Gate on the Lower Danube. The aquisition of the Railways by the State was initiated by him. Our picture represent the resting place of his mortal remains, which a grateful Nation erected in piety, to this Prototype of hungarian energy and labour. A bronce bust will also soon be placed in a square of the Capital, to proclame his countrymen’s appréciation of his merits.
