DIE RUMÄNISCHE KIRCHE VON KIS-SEBES. Kis-Sebes, ein kleines Dorf im Thale des reissenden Körös, ist berühmt durch seine Granitbrüche, welche zahllose Städte mit ihren Erzeugnissen versehen. Der Betrieb des Bergwerkes er- freut sich einer fortwähren- den Steigerung, was zur Folge hatte, dass die Un- ternehmung für die Colonie ausser den zur Gewinnung des Gesteins nöthigen Bau- ten und Werkstätten auch nette Arbeiterhäuschen auf- führen liess. Da die Arbei- ter zumeist Rumänen sind, liess man für dieselben eine eigene rumänische Kirche erbauen, welche in Ver- bindung mit den allerlei anderen Baulichkeiten der Colonie jener wildroman- tischen Gegend ein förm- lich modernes Aussehen verleiht. — Der mächtige, donnerähnliche Widerhall der daselbst massenhaft nöthigen Sprengungen ist in den Bergen auf Meilen weit hörbar, dergestalt den Kampf moderner Industrie mit den Schöpfungen einer gewaltigen Natur verkün- dend. L’ÉGLISE ROUMAINEDE KIS-SEBES. — Le petit village de Kis-Sebes, sis dans la vallée romantique de la Sebes-Körös, est re- nommé par scs importantes carrières de granit qui approvisionnent de maté- riaux de construction, un grand nombre de villes et localités de la Hongrie. L’entreprise qui exploite ces carrières étant des plus florissantes, n’a reculé de- vant aucun sacrifice, pour y faire établir non-seule- ment des bâtiments d’ex- ploitation, mais aussi un grand nombre de maisons d’ouvriers au milieu des- quelles elle a fait élever une église du culte rou- main, les ouvriers appar- tenant pour la plupart à cette nationalité. Cette ag- glomération de petites con- structions modernes dans une contrée des plus ro- mantiques, ainsi que les nombreuses détonations des mines, qui se réper- cutent d’échos en échos annoncent les progrès per- sévérants de l'industrie jusque dans les contrées les plus reculées. THE ROUMANIAN CHURCH, OF KIS-SEBES. The small village of Kis-Sebes in the valley of the Sebes-Körös, is celebrated for its exten- sive granite quarries, which supply the state - railways and many towns with this material. To meet the exi- gencies of the steadily in- creasing trade, the owners have erected many new buildings such as offices, workshops and dwelling- houses for their workmen. To make their workmen — mostly Roumanians — feel thoroughly at home and to induce them to settie there permanently, a church of their creed was built for them. These new buildings, give to the wild romantic landscape of the place, quiet a new aspect. The sounds of blas ting shots continually fired and echoed by the mountains, are heard for miles around, like a canno- nade, giving evidence of the incessant battle of hu- man industry against all- powerful Nature.
