DIE ANDRASSY-STRASSE IN BUDAPEST. — Vor kaum dreissig Jahren stand noch dort, wo jetzt die schnurgerade Andråssystrasse verläuft, ein Labyrinth von krummen, hässlichen Gässchen. Mit fast amerikanischer Schnelligkeit wuchs die herrliche Strasse, die es mit den schönsten aller anderen Hauptstädte der Welt aufnimmt, empor. Unser Bild stellt deren Anfang dar. Links das stolze Palais der Versicherungsgesellschaft «Foncière», rechts das grosse Stein’sche Haus. Hier lenken die vielen Equipagen in die majestätische Strasse, von hier ergiesst sich der Schwarm der Spaziergänger in der Richtung nach dem Stadtwäldchen, während unten Hunderte von Arbeitern an der unterirdischen Bahn bauen, die bis zur Milleniumsausstellung bereits eröffnet sein wird. *1 ni k MM«*^ ^»rø ir M ta.rn? IS' L’AVENUE ANDRÄSSY A BUDAPEST. — Il y a à peine 30 ans, que l’emplacement sur lequel cette magnifique avenue, d’un alignement droit irréprochable, formait encore un dédale de rues et de ruelles tortueuses. L’avenue Andråssy a été construite avec une rapidité pour ainsi dire américaine. Notre illustration représente le commence- ment de l’avenue. Pendant que de nombreux et brillants équipages, et des essaims de piétons circulent sur la chaussée et les trottoirs, des centaines d’ouvriers sont occupés à l’achèvement des travaux du chemin fer électrique souterrain établi sous l'avenue même, et dont la mise en service coïncidera avec l’ouverture de l'exposition THE ANDRASSY AVENUE, BUDAPEST. — Thirty years ago that part, through which this magnificent straight lined avenue passes, was a mass of narrow lånes. The new road was constructed with genuin american rapidity, and is vieing in beauty and grandeur, with the finest streets of any Metropolis. Our view shews the entrance of the avenue on the Vàczi boulevard, through which throngs of carriages and pedestrians pass in and out on their way to and from the Town-park. On the right stands Stein’s monumental mansion and on the left the palace of the «Foncière» Insurance Co. Underneath thousands of workmen are busily engaged to finish the underground railway in time for the oppening of the Millenary Exhibition.
